US President Donald Trump has announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran, citing internal divisions within the Iranian leadership as the main reason behind the decision. He described Iran’s government as “seriously fractured” and said more time is needed for its leadership to unify and present a clear, collective position before any further steps are taken.
The move reportedly came after a request from Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who urged Trump to postpone a planned military action against Iran. Following their appeal, Trump agreed to hold off the operation and instructed US forces to remain on standby while maintaining a continued blockade.
However, the ceasefire is not indefinite. Trump emphasized that it will remain in place only until Iran responds with a clear and unified proposal. He stressed that the final outcome would depend on Iran’s response, stating the situation will go “one way or the other.”
