A heartbreaking incident from Tando Masti in Khairpur, Sindh, has once again raised serious questions about violence in the name of so-called honour. According to Sindh Police, a 22-year-old woman, identified as Khalida, was allegedly killed after being declared ‘kari’ — a term used in harmful traditional practices linked to honour-based accusations.
Police officials say that two suspects, believed to be the woman’s maternal uncle and grandfather, have been arrested. An FIR has been registered, and a special investigation team has now been formed to uncover the full truth behind this tragic case.
The incident reportedly took place four days before it came into the spotlight. According to the FIR, police were on routine patrol late at night when they received information that a woman in village Batoo Chandio was at risk of being killed. When officers reached the location near Faiz Canal stop, they found armed men allegedly threatening to kill the woman. Police claim they tried to intervene and warned the suspects not to open fire, but during the chaos, one of the accused allegedly fired shots, hitting Khalida in the chest. She later died on the spot.
A video circulating on social media has further intensified public anger. In the footage, a woman dressed in red can be seen being held by two men, while another armed individual stands nearby. The woman can be heard saying she is innocent, moments before gunshots are fired. While the video is widely shared, authorities are still investigating all aspects to confirm the sequence of events.
One of the most serious concerns raised in this case is the allegation mentioned in the FIR that the incident happened in the presence of police. Questions are being asked about whether more could have been done to save her life, including why she was not immediately shifted to a hospital after being shot. The SSP Khairpur’s office has stated that these questions will be addressed by the investigation team.
Khalida’s mother shared that her daughter had been married for six years and had left home just a day before the incident. The family had tried to contact relatives after she went missing, but what followed ended in tragedy.
This case has once again highlighted the dangers of illegal jirga systems and outdated practices like karo kari, which continue to claim innocent lives. As investigations continue, many Pakistanis are demanding not just justice for Khalida, but also strict action against all those involved — and a stronger stance against such inhumane customs.
The full truth is still unfolding, and many details are yet to be confirmed.
