Women in cities like Karachi and Sukkur are now being seen riding pink electric scooters, as the Sindh government begins distributing them under the Pink Scooty Scheme. This initiative aims to make daily travel easier and safer for women who often face challenges with public transport.
What is the scheme about?
The Sindh government is providing free electric scooters to help women become more independent in their daily travel. The scheme is designed for working women and female students so they can commute without relying on others. Since the scooters are electric, they are cost-effective and do not require fuel.
Recent updates and dates
- Launch: The scheme was planned earlier and has now started in phases this year.
- Sukkur Event: On April 17, 2026, a large number of scooters were distributed to women in Sukkur.
- Expansion: After Karachi and Sukkur, the program is being extended to Hyderabad and other districts.
What do beneficiaries receive?
The scheme provides complete support to ensure safe riding:
- Free electric scooter
- Safety helmet
- Assistance in obtaining a driving license
- Riding training sessions by the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA)
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Permanent resident of Sindh (valid domicile/PRC required)
- Must be a working woman or a student
- Must have a valid driving license or a learner’s permit
Priority: Widows, single mothers, and women registered with BISP are given preference.
Important rule
There is a strict no-sale policy. The scooter cannot be sold or transferred to anyone else for 7 years. This ensures the benefit remains with the original recipient.
