In a move against online abuse, Gharida Farooqi has taken legal action after becoming the target of a coordinated digital harassment campaign. The well known Pakistani journalist filed a complaint with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) after morphed and fake images of her were circulated online.
According to official updates and her own public statement, the campaign started around 11 April 2026. It involved not just altered images but also personal attacks, character assassination and what she described as digital violence. The content was reportedly aimed at targeting her personality, appearance and reputation.
In her tweet, Gharida Farooqi revealed that one suspect, Muhammad Saqib son of Shamim Akhtar, has already been arrested. She also confirmed that authorities are actively conducting raids to arrest more individuals linked to the case.
The NCCIA has registered the complaint and started a formal investigation. Law enforcement agencies are working to trace the origin of the fake content and identify everyone involved in creating and spreading it.
Gharida Farooqi also appreciated the role of the NCCIA team and its Director General Syed Khurram Ali Shah for taking timely action. She stressed that there should be zero tolerance for attacks on a woman’s dignity and honour, especially in the digital space where misuse of technology is increasing.
