Security forces in Pakistan carried out a major intelligence-based operation in Khyber District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after receiving confirmed reports about the presence of militants in the area. According to the military’s media wing ISPR, the operation was launched on actionable intelligence and was aimed at clearing the region from armed groups that have been active in the border belt.
Officials said that as soon as the operation started, militants opened fire, leading to a heavy exchange between security forces and armed men. The clash continued for some time in the mountainous area where militants were reportedly hiding. In the end, 22 militants were killed during the operation, while weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the site.
Security sources added that such intelligence-based operations are part of ongoing efforts to improve peace and stability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially in areas that have previously seen militant activity. These operations are usually carried out after proper surveillance and confirmation to avoid civilian harm and target only suspected hideouts.
However, officials also confirmed a tragic incident during the operation where a 10-year-old child lost his life in the crossfire.
After the operation, security forces launched a search and clearance activity in the surrounding region to ensure no further militants are hiding in nearby locations. Authorities have stated that the mission will continue until the area is fully secured.
Local residents in such areas often face disruption during these operations, but many also see them as necessary for long-term peace. The situation in Khyber remains tense but under control as security forces maintain their presence.
