Commenting on the current state of feminism, Sarah Khan, a Pakistani actress, made an announcement that she is not a part of it. In a chat with Independent Urdu, she not only spoke about time-honored gender values but also discussed how she lives her life. The controversy around her remarks keeps rolling in online, where some find them truthful, whereas others view them as totally wrong.
When Sarah was questioned about her position, she immediately stated that she is not a feminist. She prefers a man to do things such as pay the bills or stand in line. Moreover, she said that she would be more comfortable doing house chores and still being a mother and a wife. She says that she is living a life that makes her feel cherished and loved, just like in the past.
Her statement hit the web with force and stirred up quite a large frenzy of disagreements on different kinds of forums. Critics went as far as to say that feminism doesn’t mean the reversal of characters but the granting of the right to women to pick whatever line of work they deem fit. Various celebrities like Reham Khan also voiced their opinions and questioned Sarah’s statement. To this, Noor Zafar Khan, actress and sister of Sarah, reacted by supporting Sarah and stating that Sarah was not attacking anyone but was only sharing her view.
Sarah Khan’s comments depict a perspective that many women endorsing traditional gender roles would agree with. Though her point of view may not be entirely in line with the modern feminist movement, it still acknowledges the imperative dialogue of choice, honor, and numerous ways women may find empowerment.
