The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is undeniably one of the most competent and powerful air forces in the region. The major responsibility of PAF is to secure Pakistan’s air, which it does with a powerful line-up of fighter jets.
Undoubtedly, as of the moment, the PAF has over 400 fighter jets in the fleet, with some of them being the latest and most advanced and some of the older models for various trainings and support.
It is the JF-17 Thunder that plays the maximum superiority role in the PAF’s collection. This is an advanced aircraft that was co-produced by China and is under full-scale production in Pakistan. The PAF owns more than 150 JF-17s, and, inexorably, this number is growing. The plane can reach a top speed and has strong power to shoot and hit not only flying but also ground forces.
Also, the F-16 Fighting Falcon, which the PAF got from the United States, makes up a lion’s share of the aircraft fleet. This aircraft is recognized for its speed, accuracy, and long former service in combat. The PAF has nearly 75 F-16s in its service at present.
There are several other jets that are also part of the fleet, for example, the Mirage III and Mirage V—old aircraft made in France, which are still being modified and are utilized in some missions. The PAF has around 130 Mirage jets.
Also, F-7s (Chinese-made jets) predominantly come into play as training aircraft and have limited operational roles. And it’s not only about the machines—the people play an important role too.
Furthermore, PAF pilots are not only well-trained, but they also have the virtue of being brave; besides, they are ever ready to go into the national defense.
Briefly, the Pakistan Air Force, with a group of capable pilots and 400 fighter jets above, would be the owners of the sky force. The increased reliance on indigenous technology such as the JF-17 is a clear indication that Pakistan is reducing its dependency on foreign nations for defense.
