The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) in Karachi has recently taken a major step to enforce fire safety regulations across the city. Following the devastating fire at Gul Plaza, which exposed serious safety lapses in several buildings, the authority has issued official fire safety notices to more than 100 commercial and residential buildings.
SBCA inspectors conducted thorough checks of malls, offices, and residential complexes to ensure that each building had the necessary firefighting equipment, emergency exits, and safety systems in place. In cases where deficiencies or non-functional equipment were found, building owners were served notices demanding immediate action, typically within just a few days. Failure to comply could result in legal action, FIRs, or even the sealing of the building.
