The term “World War 3” can make even the bravest person shiver with fear. When we think of the two destructive World Wars and their terrible outcome, many are worried that another global conflict might occur in the future. These two wars were the cause of millions of deaths, they led to the demolition of cities, and many countries were destroyed. Therefore, a very legitimate question is: Can such an event be expected to happen again?
Why People Are Worried
It is a fact that there are still many conflicts between nations in today’s world. Some countries are dealing with major disputes over borders, power, religion, and natural resources such as oil and water. Tensions between such world powers as the United States and Russia, China and Taiwan, and India and Pakistan are in the news every day. The rise of voices in these powerful nations and the showcasing of their military might become the spark of World War.
The Role Of Nuclear Weapons
The fact that the world has not seen a global war in a long time is due to the fear of the use of nuclear weapons. Besides the U.S. and Russia, China also has bombs capable of wiping out a whole city. If any of the countries mentioned above go to war, it could basically mean the end of life. Countries, because of this, instead of fighting, look for solutions through peaceful means, and even those who are in serious disagreement show a preference for nonviolent talks.
The World’s Organizations Work for the Goal of Peace
Not only the UN but also many other international organizations are involved in reducing conflict and promoting peace. They do not succeed in every mission, but they are a powerful instrument for preventing the Third World War from happening up to now.
Could It Still Happen?
Even in the case that today’s nations are not fully ready for the battle, war risk is never zero. A mishap, a surprise attack, or a wrong political decision can easily lead to a great confrontation. One of the reasons it is significant for world leaders to keep communicating and respecting each other and never using force.
Furthermore, for regular people, it is important to be able to choose topics of peace and unity, where they have become a large part of the answer, rather than those topics that make them aggressive and divided.
The Third World War is theoretically still possible, but it seems more like a ghost at this time. Most of the countries are fully aware of the harmful effects of wars, and thus, they want to step away from them. But still, the tension in different parts of the world is evidence that we need to create peace for ourselves and others.
Peace—the basic principle of humankind should be set up by everyone, be it a holder of authority, an ordinary man, or even a child. We have the advantage of studying history, and we can do everything to avoid a world war. Peace is always a better option than war.
