West Indies Power-Hitter Andre Russell Retires from International Cricket

Andre Russell, the powerful West Indies all-rounder, is reportedly set to announce his retirement from international cricket. If the plan plays out as expected, his last games for the West Indies will take place in the first two T20 internationals against Australia at his home ground in Sabina Park, Jamaica, on July 20 and 22.

37-year-old Russell has been a vital member of the West Indies, especially in the T20 format, and was part of the victorious T20 World Cup teams in 2012 and 2016. Since 2019, he has been playing mostly T20I games for the national team.

His decision to retire from international cricket comes at the same time as when the next T20 World Cup is, just seven months before the tournament in February 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.

Despite the fact that he is not involved in the national team, Russell has plans for T20 league involvement from various parts of the world and is specifically linked to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League. Thus, he changes the direction of his career to the more profitable and less strenuous global T20 cricket.
