The Second World War was the biggest and bloodiest conflict on the planet that ever happened to humankind. It began in 1939 and went on until 1945, while many nations became involved in it. However, those numerous countries were then transformed into two big groups: the United Nations (also called the “Allied Powers” during the war) and the Axis Powers.
Members of the Allied powers included the United States, the United Kingdom, the USSR (Russia), France, and China. The combined force of these countries was used to crush the Axis Powers.
The main countries behind the Axis Powers were Germany, Italy, and Japan. Their initial passion for the war was not only to conquer other countries but also to gain more power and control.
The war between the two groups started when Adolf Hitler’s German troops invaded Poland. At the end of a long and bloody six-year conflict, in 1945, the United Nations emerged as the winner. It was a matter of months; Germany first, and then Japan in August, after the atomic bombs were dropped at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, capitulated.
So, in simple words:
Winners of World War 2: United States, Soviet Union, United Kingdom, France, China (Allied Powers).
Losers of World War 2: Germany, Italy, and Japan (Axis Powers).
The war changed the world in every aspect. A great number of states were ruined, millions of people had died, and the world saw the devastating and most dangerous side of a war.
